What is NSRS?

A tool with the small ones in mind

The NSRS-tool is developed with the smaller companies in mind, and comparable with the VSME-standard. The tool can be used by professional accountants to help their clients to prepare their sustainability report.

Goal

NSRS started as a new and simplified sustainability reporting standard for SMEs in the Nordics. The NSRS-standard and tool was developed by finding and exploring the cross-section between a synthesis of existing standards, the user needs and the reality of the greater context such as the regulative landscape and industry specific challenges. Now it is fully integrated with the VSME-standard.

The purpose of NSRS

“We want to accelerate the transition to a circular and green economy through transparency and accountability by empowering SMEs to unlock their own impact potential.”

Hans Christian Ellefsen

Chair of the NSRS board

Climate change as a call to action

Global consumption of raw materials are expected to double in the next forty years, and the world will be consuming as if there were three planet Earth by 2050. Half of the total greenhouse gas emissions and more than 90% of biodiversity loss and water stress come from resource extraction and processing.

Scaling up the circular economy will enable decoupling economic growth from resource use and make a decisive contribution to achieving climate neutrality. To fulfill this ambition, we need to accelerate the transition towards a regenerative growth model that gives back to the planet more than it takes, advance towards keeping its resource consumption within planetary boundaries.
